Deputy Philip Fatch

End of Watch: January 21 , 1909

Cause: gunfire

Deputy Fatch was shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant on a subject for an assault and battery. As Deputy Fatch and another deputy arrived, the offender produced a handgun and opened fire, striking Deputy Fatch in the abdomen and the other deputy in the ankle. Both deputies quickly returned fire, striking the offender three times. Deputy Fatch succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Two nights later, the offender was reported to have been seized by an angry mob from the County Jail and hanged from a tree at the corner of Saint Emmanuel and Church Street.

 

Deputy Fatch had served with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office for (unknown length of service). He was 40 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by (unknown information at this time).
