Police Officer William "Will" Buechner Jr. was shot and killed when he and other officers responded to a domestic disturbance complaint off Wire Road.
 

As officers arrived on the scene, a male subject, later identified as Grady Wayne Wilkes (29) immediately opened fire on police, killing Officer Buechner and wounding Officers Webb Sistrunk and Evan Elliot. The subject then fled the scene on foot. A massive manhunt was activated and the subject was apprehended the following morning.

Grady Wilkes was arrested and charged with Capital Murder, along with three counts of Attempted Murder. 

 

Officer Buechner had served with the Auburn Police Department for thirteen years.He was also a member of the Gunners Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. He is survived by his wife, son and step daughter.
